NaNoWriMo 2012

It’s nearly that time of year again! NaNoWriMo is coming! And it’s only 7 days away! For those of you not in the know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it occurs every November.

The goal is to write a novel in a month.  They call it “30 days and nights of literary abandon!” (I love that.  “literary abandon” tee hee.)  What you do is write eleventy bajillion words in 30 days to develop a novel.  That adds up to approximately forty kathousand words a night.  Totally possible.

I’ve participated for the past 3 years, but never finished.  Why?  There are always a thousand reasons why.  This year, however, I am going to finish! Dagnabbit.

I know what you’re thinking, “But how? How will you do it when you don’t have a functioning computer at home and are terrible at just updating this blog?”  And to you I say, “Shut it.  Don’t ruin my optimism.”  Truthfully, every year there’s been something that hinders my ability to devote time to writing that much every night.  The first year it was school. The second year I had started planning a wedding.  Last year it was something big.  I think it was that I moved and was a newly wed and some crap at work, but it may have been just that I needed to take more naps.  It’s hard to say really.

This year will be different.  This year, I will be prepared!  I will plan ahead.  I’m going to start prewriting NOW. I am going to write daily and meet my goals.  I’ve never done any prewriting, and I am going to go ahead and blame that for my lack of success.  I have one week to get this stuff started and ready for writing on November 1st.

Have some questions about what the hell I’m talking about?  Want to give NaNoWriMo a try yourself?  Check out their website and sign up.  If nothing else, you get to read some groovy novels and encourage other writers through the process.
