I have discovered a distaste for television.

Ironically, I discovered my dislike for television after attempting to upgrade my cable package.  TV is ridiculously expensive, and my husband and I are getting a decent discount.  But, still, when I realized how much we are paying every year for TV and internet, I was displeased.  To make matters worse, it’s going to be even more because the upgrade I ordered STILL doesn’t come with BBC America.

This is not going to work for me.

I proposed to The Boy that we just suspend Television entirely.  He was not keen on the idea.  He has to watch all those different versions of the exact same show over and over again.  It’s kinda his thing.  Personally, I don’t see the difference between “Life Below Zero” and “Mountain Men”, but whatever.

So, I’ve decided to quit TV.  It’s going to be a challenge, because it’s my go to activity lately, but that’s just why I need to quit it.  I know what you’re thinking, “Oh, Sweetie, you’re a fangirl, there’s no way you’re quitting.”

And that’s true, I am a fangirl, but I feel sick, like brainsick, from all the TV The Boy and I watch.  It’s making me dumb.  Seriously.  I do not feel as intelligent as I did in college.  Of course I watched TV in college, but I was also challenged intellectually on a daily basis.  Now  I’m bored.  Like, all the time.  I need more than this.  I need to be challenged, and I think quitting TV will be my first step.

I’d also like to get rid of the Internet because I have it on my phone, and I can go to the library when I need to do research.  I think giving up the internet will be more difficult than giving up TV, but we shall see.

Now, don’t misunderstand me, I’m not against Technology.  I’m totally for computers and cellphones and all that fun stuff, I’m just trying to get away from the time suck that is Television.  Maybe I’ll take up a hobby.  Or spend more time outdoors.  I don’t know, but the free time I will encounter by quitting TV could be monumental.

I’d love to get The Boy on board.  Not just to have him agree to cut the bill down, but to get him outside doin stuff.  He tends to be very sedentary at home and I know it actually makes him miserable.  Maybe if he were up and about, he’d be happier in life.

Maybe, if we were all up and about, we’d be happier in life.

What about you?  Are you literally sick of TV too?  Or have I just been living in too much excess of television?

Join me.  Abandon TV and find something (or someone) to fall in love with.  Maybe with all that extra time on our hands, we will change the world.
